Fatima Elzahraa Marwan Shaat is the first Palestinian in Gaza that I promised to help.
She reached out to my darling Irene, because they had a mutual friend; Mohammad Zaher Hamo, martyred by the Israeli Occupation Forces on November 24th, 2023 — the first day of the temporary ceasefire. At this point, Irene had promised to help the campaign of her friend Eman, and her family of 8, exclusively.
When I read through Fatima’s campaign, and began to speak with her, I was blown away at her eloquence, intellect, and selfless ambition to bring the justice that most of the world receives, to her people. You can read her writings here, at the We Are Not Numbers website; but I encourage you to go to her campaign and read that too. There are many links share that include a google drive of plays put on by her family (in English) written by her father, Marwan. Any donation you leave will help Fatima and two of her younger sisters evacuate Gaza in order to complete their educations. Fatima has a scholarship at Bard College in New York. Can you imagine the amazing work she’ll be able to do for her fellow Palestinians?
This is an article her father had published recently:
The Last Night in Rafah
By Marwan Abu-Laila
ON MAY 28, 2024, […] a deep sadness enveloped our family. That night marked the last evening we would spend in our beloved home. Even though the evacuation of Rafah had been anticipated, I felt as though a terrible nightmare had materialized. In that moment of profound sorrow, I whispered to myself with bitter resignation, “Oh, history repeats itself once again, Marwan.”
Urgent Needs:
Ghada has 2 small children, and recently her phone broke. She is unable to spend time begging strangers on the internet for their financial support to provide for her children. If you could send anything her way, or go to her instagram page to share anything, it would be greatly appreciated. [at]ghada_from_gaza
Neveen has 3 children under the age of 5 years old. Last January her husband left to see what belongings he could find from the rubble of their home and didn’t return. For most of a year Neveen hoped he was still alive and trying to find them, never imagining the truth. He had abandoned her and the children. If you’re unable to make a donation, please go to her instagram page [at]nevena_el_hassanat_ and engage with any of the posts.
