Something pretty cool just happened. After printing a bunch of zines at the library, I stopped by the neighborhood dispensary. The person who helped me with my order complimented the patch on my jacket (picture below). I let them know that I have tons of totes and patches with the same print on them at home, and I sell them for donations to folks in Gaza, they lit up, clearly interested. So I pulled a couple of zines from my pocket and said I’d grab some and be back. By the time I returned, they had sent $15 to both campaigns. It was a beautiful and brief interaction, and I’m inspired to always keep a few more things on me for future opportunities.
Urgent needs:
It’s always difficult to choose urgent needs for this section, as, all needs of those in Gaza are urgent. With the “ceasefire,” many people are concerned that the support will also end. But, until people can rebuild their lives, and sustain themselves, our ongoing support is vital. The work and the need will be years and generations long.
Heba’s son Muhammed had his surgery for Rheumatism, and the hospital required $1,400. We didn’t reach this goal, so she had to borrow the money. She must pay this back by the middle of April, or she will be jailed, or all money that comes into her account will be taken until the amount is reached. In the coming days, Heba’s brother is one of the prisoners Israel is releasing. He is 42 years old and has been imprisoned since he was 18. She will continue to need to feed her children, pay for Muhammed’s ongoing medicine, and hopefully find a better shelter for her family.
Hala, a 19-year-old girl who is the provider for 4 younger siblings and a sick mother, has been trying to study online to finish her education so she can help her family. But the school is charging $750 in tuition or she will be kicked out of the program.
Kayan still doesn’t have a good working tent for her children since rubble crushed it and broke her baby’s leg in early December.
