Poem by Marwan Shaat
We are not alone
The Forbidden City
(Rafah)
Ever since, we have flown, escaped, hiked, been forced, and displaced, from our beloved city, Rafah. We have been homeless, strayed, wondering. Never tasting the feelings of a secure continent and safety. We are always running — getting wood, water, food, and shelter. Obviously, things got out of hand, the world doesn’t make sense anymore and people around us don’t behave as they ought to, to stop the ongoing genocide.
In fact, the whole world let us down. On the other hand, they support the occupation in all means especially the USA, Germany, Britain, and many countries too in weapons supplied. On the contrary, their people made demonstrations condemning the genocide and calling for an immediate cease-fire demanding the International Community to bring the occupation to justice… but in vain.
Many hungry children are killed by the occupation airstrikes as well as the siege imposed on the North of Gaza and the Middle of Gaza. Following the starving policy against Gazian civilians through the USA and the UN warned the occupation from doing so it’s against the humanitarian law. Which, all countries around the world have called to be respected even in the midst of the war. Water, food, and medicine can’t be denied for forbidden to enter any disputed places, or in clashed ones, or there is fighting among two groups. Humanity, human beings, and civilians must be away from the struggling, mainly prohibited from being used as a human shield or a cover or reason to enter or target wanted persons or military regions. Despite the huge destruction that occurred in the city, but still, the Israeli army insisted to wipe out Rafah city from the map, claiming it’s a border city, thinking it will be wiped from its inhabitants memories but they are absolutely wrong.
Their hope is pie in the sky.
Undoubtedly, Israel government is rotten to the core.
Our city will remain the symbol of resistance and the graveyard of the enemy as well as treasonous people and the battlefield of brave and courageous knights.
Rafah means: Resistance Against Foreign Army and Humiliation

[Marwan Shaat is the father of Fatima, Mennat, and Raghad, the 3 sisters I have been fundraising for. Fatima has a scholarship to Bard College in New York. They are hoping for the sisters to travel and stay with their sister in Cairo to finish their educations. I urge you to go to their campaign page, even if you are unable to donate at this time, and read through their story, click the links to Fatima’s published stories, and watch the videos of the plays they put on in English as children. Marwan wrote them.]
