Urgent Needs:
Mahmoud’s wife Laila is due to give birth to their first child in Gaza. This will add another infant to their growing extended family. Their child has 2 cousins also born this year. This is the link to Mahmoud’s brother’s campaign. Write a note or tell me that the amount donated is intended for Mahmoud and Laila.
Heba is a widowed mother of 3 children in Gaza. Her eldest son Mohammed is 14 years old and was diagnosed with Rheumatism. Due to the constant pain he is in, that his body is still growing, as well as the malnutrition and rampant diseases, it was determined that surgery is the best option for his relief. A family living in a tent among the bombed-out rubble of their neighborhood needs all the help they can get to afford the surgery. Here is the link to donate.
If you cannot afford to send any donations to these families, can you share my substack with 2 people who aren’t active social media users? This way, easy ways to help will come right into their inboxes once or twice a week.
An update and something to look forward to:
Baraa is my dear friend, a 19-year-old kid in Gaza who is tenacious, charismatic, and hard-working. (His brother, Mahmoud, is written about above.) This week, his original GoFundMe campaign was deleted, and thousands of dollars were returned to the original donors. Hours later, Mahmoud’s GoFundMe was placed on hiatus, leading down the same path that Baraa’s faced. This is happening more and more often to GoFundMe’s. Mondoweiss wrote about it in March.
For the second month in a row, Wafa’s family was right up against the deadline, scrambling to raise hundreds of dollars for rent in the days and hours before they would be evicted. This would put 8 people, including small children, living in the streets of Gaza in winter in a genocide. By an absolute miracle, 2 angels donated large amounts saving them this fate for another month. It is unconscionable that people are still required to pay rent when it is next to impossible to have a means of income. There will be a tattoo raffle in Austin, Texas launching this month to help Wafa and her husband pay rent for the next few months, keep your eyes peeled for it.
